Authorities in Tây Ninh Province have launched criminal proceedings after discovering 104 wild animals being kept without legal documentation at a wildlife breeding facility in Phước Thạnh Commune. During an inspection, officials found 92 African spurred tortoises, six Red Lories and six Green-cheeked Parakeets, all of which are protected under Việt Nam’s forestry regulations and listed in Appendix II of CITES.
The facility owner was unable to provide documents proving the lawful origin of the animals and admitted the breeding site had not been officially registered as required by law. All 104 animals were seized and transferred to the provincial forest protection authorities for proper care while the investigation continues.
Following the case, local authorities urged wildlife breeders and traders to strictly comply with regulations on the management of protected species, ensuring all animals have legal documentation and licensed breeding facilities.
