Vietnam has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening regional and international partnerships through high-level diplomatic engagements during the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM-59) in the Philippines. Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung held bilateral talks with Philippine Foreign Secretary Maria Theresa Lazaro and Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide to discuss expanding cooperation and addressing key regional issues.
In discussions with the Philippines, both sides welcomed the growing momentum of the Vietnam–Philippines Enhanced Strategic Partnership and agreed to accelerate the implementation of recent bilateral agreements. The ministers also emphasized the importance of maintaining ASEAN unity and reaffirmed their commitment to working toward an effective and substantive Code of Conduct (COC) in the East Sea that aligns with international law, particularly the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
During talks with Norway, Minister Trung highlighted opportunities to deepen cooperation in renewable energy, green technology, the sustainable marine economy, and human resource development. Both countries also expressed support for advancing the Vietnam–EFTA Free Trade Agreement and expanding collaboration through ASEAN and other international frameworks. The meetings underscored Vietnam’s commitment to promoting regional stability, sustainable development, and stronger global partnerships.
