Major General Nguyễn Văn Sáu has highlighted the growing role of Vietnam’s defence diplomacy in safeguarding national interests while contributing to global peace and security. He said the appointment of a Vietnamese military officer to a senior leadership position in a United Nations peacekeeping mission reflects the country’s increasing professionalism, international credibility and commitment to addressing global security challenges through peaceful cooperation.
According to the defence expert, Vietnam’s participation in UN peacekeeping operations has evolved from fulfilling international responsibilities to making meaningful contributions by sharing expertise, supporting humanitarian efforts and taking on leadership roles. He noted that these missions strengthen the country’s international standing, expand defence cooperation and reinforce Vietnam’s image as a responsible and trusted member of the global community.
Major General Sáu also stressed that building a modern military requires not only professional capability but also the spirit of innovation, responsibility and adaptability. He said Vietnamese peacekeepers continue to demonstrate these qualities by operating effectively in multinational environments, contributing practical solutions to international missions and promoting Vietnam’s long-term commitment to peace, stability and sustainable development.
